The atmosphere & Kőporosi Cellar Row
Götz Winery is located in a Swabian village, Hercegkút, which lies about 3 kilometres from Sárospatak. The first mention of the settlement dates from the 1750s, and the original name of the village was Trautsondorf. The village has two rows of wine cellars, in Kőporos and Gombos-hegy, both of which form part of the World Heritage Site. Hercegkút has become more and more popular with tourists because of the Swabian Folk House, which preserves old traditions. It is worth taking a walk in Gombos-hegy to Kálvária before the wine tasting because of the spectacular view. The village belongs to the Roman Catholic religion, and our church was built in the 18th century. In addition, there are several accommodation facilities suitable for a wide range of requirements.

OUR MISSION:
Götz Winery is a traditional family wine cellar that envisages creating excellent wines produced with meticulous care from vine-growing through the ripening of wine to bottling. The more than 100-year-old cellar owned by the former Dessewffy family houses our catering unit, which welcomes its guests as a perfect combination of tradition and modernity. An exclusive space with a service capacity of 35 people is revealed between the walls of the cellar, which is complemented by a guest room for 24 people, thus ensuring an intimate and friendly atmosphere.
Located in the heart of Hercegkút, part of the UNESCO World Heritage, is home to one of the most famous wine cellar rows of Tokaj-Hegyalja, located on the northern border of the village. The charming Kőporosi cellar row, along with the Gombos-hegy cellar row, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2002. On the northern side of Hercegkút, towards Makkoshotyka, 87 triangular-gabled cellars are lined up in a sawtooth pattern along the Kőporosi hillside. These cellars, hidden behind simple wooden doors, extend deep into the ground, typically 10 to 40 meters long, with one, two, or three branching passages.
The cellars were created by settlers from the Black Forest region of Germany, who were brought to the area by Prince Trautson after the tumultuous period of the Rákóczi War of Independence, around 1748-49. At the time, the village was known as Trautson or Trauczonfalva (Trauzendorf), and it was only in 1904 that it was renamed Hercegkút in honor of the prince and the nearby Pogánykút (Pagan Well)
Götz Winery – Family Heritage, International Recognition
Our family cultivates nearly 20 hectares of vineyards in the renowned Tokaj wine region. As a small winery, our greatest challenge lies in wine sales, since we do not operate a separate commercial team. We bottle between 100,000 and 150,000 wines annually, selling primarily to restaurants, wine shops, and international partners through direct connections.
Main export markets: China, Japan, Russia, Finland, and Slovakia.
Notably, in late 2023, we were proud to win a national tender in Finland, selected from among 35 Hungarian Furmints. We shipped 14,000 bottles of our semi-sweet Furmint to Finland following this success.
Highlights of our winery:
- Premium vineyards in Tolcsva, Sárazsadány, and Sárospatak (including historic former treasury lands)
- Modern processing and bottling facility with stainless steel tanks
- Aging takes place in our four-level historic cellar located on the Gombos-hegy cellar row, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Our philosophy combines tradition with modern technology
- Every bottle carries the family name – our personal guarantee of quality
In recent years, we’ve focused on expanding our export presence, including promotional visits to China and Kazakhstan.
Recent achievements:
- Awarded Hungary’s Most Beautiful Winery in 2023
- Our dry Furmint and 6 puttonyos Aszú are official wines of the Hungarian National Museum
- Dry Muscat Blanc (Sárgamuskotály) ranked among Hungary’s Top 10 aromatic wines
