Tokajicum Wine House

Our winery is located in Tarcal, in the heart of the unique Tokaj Wine Region, and proudly preserves the rich winemaking traditions of the region, while combining them with modern technologies. We farm nearly 20 hectares of our plantations on the border of Tarcal and Mád. Our winery was founded in 2002 by its previous owner, when the Mediterranean-style wine house and the cellar equipped with modern technology were built. Our current owner has been running our winery since 2007 with a passion for winemaking and a commitment to the region. Since then, the winery has been constantly developing and innovating, thanks to which our wines, reflecting the values of Tokaj, represent true quality at an affordable price.

About Us

The head winemaker and viticultural manager of our winery is László Butella, who has been working in the vineyard since the age of 16. After 3 years in the vineyard, he became a cellar manager, then continued his career as a quality inspector, which was followed by years spent as head winemaker at several wineries in Tokaj-Hegyalja. He has been managing the work of our winery and vineyard for several years.

Our philosophy is to make wines that look to the future, taking advantage of the opportunities of the present and relying on the values of the past. We are always experimenting and striving for renewal. The refinement of our technology, the modern cultivation of our plantations, the clarity, outstanding quality, and unique appearance of our wines are important to us.

Our wines

Taking advantage of the different climatic and soil conditions of the Tarcal and Mád vineyards, different styles of vineyard-selected and estate-selected mineral Furmints and Hárslevelűs form the backbone of our dry wine selection, in addition to which we place great emphasis on our late-harvest dessert wines. The top of the range is still the Aszús. Furmint, Hárslevelű, Sárgamuskotály, Zéta varieties provide the raw material for our wines. The fruits of our invested work have been visible to others in recent years, and we are proud of the great results achieved in international and domestic wine competitions.

The Estate

The nearly 20-hectare vineyard estate is located in an unparalleled location. Its panorama is made magnificent by the southern extension of the Kopasz-hegy in Tokaj, which touches Tarcal. The estate, which is still surrounded by vineyards today – according to archival sources – was once the estate of the Andrássy Counts. Our vineyards are all located in first-class, famous historical vineyards. On the border of Tarcal, in the Perőcz, Czeke, Feketehegy, Királygát, Mandulás, on the border of Mád, in the Betsek, Hold-völgy vineyards, and in Rátka, in the Holdvölgy vineyards.

Most of the plantations are forty years old or older. Our head winemaker is particularly keen on the old vines because they limit their yield and, above all, because they are the source of wines with high mineral content. The advantage of the scattered location is that the varied soil and location provide opportunities for experimentation, because the same grape varieties show completely different faces when harvested from vineyards with different characteristics.

We carried out reconstruction in most of our areas in 2009, which beautified our plantations and restored them to their former glory. In 2010-2011, we financed new plantings in the Perőcz, Királygát, and Holdvölgy vineyards, and in recent years, we have planted in the Mandulás and Betsek vineyards. We will continue to do so in the future.

We attach great importance to the sustainability of our vineyards, so that we can harvest healthy raw materials every year. The goal of our conscious management is to provide ideal grapes for our portfolio. We choose the most modern, but also environmentally friendly solutions when maintaining our vineyards, and in order to preserve water management and soil strength, our winery is constantly working to minimize its ecological footprint.
